I have seen it mentioned in a couple of places. The one I remember and have in front of me is an interview with John W. Inzer from the State Archives. Keep in mind he is telling this long after the war. However, he alludes to the order and Blount's action in his wartime diary also. But as far as the order and him being relieved he says and I'm quoting from the interview,

"Col. Blounts Battalion was ordered to stay in reserve in its camp near Corinth. As a command it was partly armed and equipped, and was without experience. All of the men, however, had a martial spirit and were anxious to get into the fight. We were hearing of the battle all day Sunday April 5, and late Sunday night. This was too much for our doughty Colonel. He repaired to Corinth, where he got a supply of arms and ammunition, which he issued to the Battalion, and early Monday morning, we were on the march for Shiloh. This was April 6, 1862. After a hard day's foot-sore march, we reached the field near the close of the day, and the close of the fight that evening. We occupied a position close to the enemy that night. We were under fire, but there were no casualties in our command. It is worthy of note here that one of our pickets killed a Yankee that night. Next morning we recieved an order from some source to return to Corinth. There we remained a few days, when Col. Blount was relieved and four companies of the Battalion were placed in the 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment, and four companies were placed in the 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment."

As I said I have seen it mentioned in other places but will have to go back through my files to find it. "Cashiered" is one word I've seen used to describe what happened to Blount. Again I apologize for not remembering the other sources just now. But I'll post them as soon as I find them. If I'm not mistaken there is a mention of the orders for the Battalion to be held back in Braggs order for the battle. Again, I'll look that up too.

Where did you get the information about him being turned down the command of the 41st?
