Based on orders issued April 19, 1862, members of Companies “A” and “G”, Blount’s 5th Alabama Battalion, became new Company “K”, 18th Alabama Regiment. Old Company “K” of the 18th Alabama Regiment was consolidated with Company “E” of that regiment. On July 21, 1862, officers and men of new Company "K" reenlisted for three years or the war. About September 30, 1862, their company letter designation became “L”, old Company “K” reverting to its original designation. On March 2, 1863, Company “L” was dissolved and members reassigned to Companies “A” and “G” of the newly-organized 9th Alabama Battalion.
