Edward Crenshaw of company K, 17th Alabama wrote about the reorganization of the 9th battalion in his diary on March 2, 1863.
"The 9th Ala. Battalion, which had been disbanded in Mississippi after the battle of Shiloh and the men and a few officers put in the 17th and 18th Ala. Infantry, by order of Gen. Bragg, was reorganized by order of the War Department. Capt. Bush Jones of the 18th Ala. was elected Lieut. Col. J.W. Inzer of the 18th Alabama Infantry was elected Major, George Markham Capt. Comp. "A". I was elected Captain of Company "B."

Company F
"May 28---It remained at Corinth until the evacuation on May 28, 1862, participating in the memorable retreat: engaged the enemy at Blackland, Mississippi. Was commanded on this occassion by Captain Thomason, formerly of Colonel [Robert P.] Blount's Battalion."
Company I
"April 26---By Special Orders to that effect, Company I of the Eighteenth Regiment, Alabama Volunteers, was blended with Captain Thomason's Company of Lieutenant-Colonel R. P. Blount's Fifth Alabama Battalion on April 26. By the blending, seventy-one men were added to the muster roll of the company."

Company A
"Members of this company were consolidated April 28, 1862 with those of company G and mustered on rolls August 31, 1862 to February 28, 1863 as company K/L Eighteenth Alabama Infantry, Capt Bush Jones [commanding] Others served in company I, Eighteenth Alabama Infantry."
Company H
"Part of this company served in 1862 in Company H, Seventeenth Alabama Infantry."
Looks like the men were "dispersed" pretty good.
