Re: 6th Ala Cavalry Regiment, Co. I

As noted in an earlier post, service record for J A White shows him as a member of Co "B", 6th Alabama Cavalry. The 1860 census reports J A White as age 17, resident of Crawford, Russell County AL. He has a number of records from different months of 1863 as forage master. The furthest south location for this man is Canoe Station near Perdido, on the railroad. The regiment camped there during the fall and winter of 1863, right along the Florida state line.

The 1907 census for Confederate veterans lists this man as a resident of Covington County:
WHITE, JAMES ANDREW Present Post Office; Newell Fla Was born on June 22, 1844 at Brooklyn in the county of Conecuh in the state of Alabama; First entered the service as private on Nov 23, 1864 at Milton Fla in Co I, 6th Ala Cav Regt and continued until discharged at Milton Fla Feb 20, 1865.

He is definitely not the same man as J A White, who filed a pension application as John A White from Lee County AL. He is the J A White described in my first paragraph. To make matters more confusing, J A White served just over a year in the 6th Alabama Infantry Regt.
