Fort Douglas, Arkansas

Alright all you Arkansas armchair historians I have a question.

Just a few miles North of Gould Arkansas, Arkansas Highway 114 ends at the small community of Douglas, Arkansas. The Question is;

Was that community there in January 1863?

The reason that I ask is that some of the research of Walker's Texas Divisons responce to the Battle of Arkansas Post, was once they arrived in the area of South Bend Plantation they stop their advance to relieve the Confederates at Fort Hindman/Arkansas Post, because they heard of the surrender of that Fort.

According to some of the references in the history of the 9th Texas Artillery, they built an Earthen/Mud fortification about a mile from the Arkansas River covering the lower Pine Bluff to Arkansas Post Road. This fortification was refered to in these correspondance as "Fort Douglas".

This raised the question was the fortification named after the location? And if this was the location of this fortification? Or was it closer to South Bend?

Does anyone have an opinion on this?
