I was curious about this too, as my Great-Great Grandfather Elias Crocker ended up in the 4th Ark Union Cavalry. Prior to that, he served in the 31st Mississippi Infantry CSA. whatever happened, he managed to get a pension for his Union Service. He went into the 4th Ark around Feb 1864.
