Excellent point David; I just found it surprising that of the nearly 300 (if I recall correctly, the 4th had about 450 men on the roster in the 1893 Congressional rollup) I was unable to find slave owners. It could have been an oversight on my part when I was doing the research (a bit tough to look up 300 people in the 60 Census :). Still, I never doubted that there were some slaveholders somewhere; that is why I was so surprised I never found any in the sample I had of the regiment. Thanks for the additional knowledge!
