You might have just provided another point of departure for Louann, Bryan. I was under the impression that Asa died in camp at Huntersville, Arkansas, which was an unincorporated town (no longer there) just across the river from Little Rock. This agrees with his regiment’s location at the time of his death. After Jenkin’s Ferry, the 2nd did duty at Little Rock until July 1864.

Three others of his company (D) also died at “Huntersville” between Sept and Oct 1864, which creates another mystery. None of these men (Calvin McLane, James Hunt and Ransom Falkner) appear in Little Rock Nat’l Cemetery records. So, if we can find the burial location of these three men, we might also find Asa, assuming he is not in the LR Nat’l Cemetery (a real long shot).

Louann and Margaret might work together to find an obit, as per Frank’s suggestion, which would possibly help clear things up. If one exists, I assume it would be in a Yell County newspaper archive. I think the odds are better that one exists for Joel, since he died in 1913/14. They might find his obit in Franklin County, Illinois.

There is also the possibility that Joel is actually buried in the Little Rock Nat’l Cemetery. His son, Joel Jr., appears on the 1910 census for Pulaski County, and it is not out of the question that a son might have his father’s remains “brought back home.”
