No the exact regiment is unknown at this time. Until a letter etc is found that tells which regiments lost flags it will be a mystery. THere were 3 flags picked up in the swale in the Cooper Field, 1 by the 9th Wisc and 2 by the 50 Indiana. During the battle, It was Arkansas troops that entered the field and made it to the swale only to be pinned down. Other troops passed to the south of the field in the woods while a Missouri unit was to the left on the road. THe Feds did not advance into the field but once and that only briefly. As they moved into the field as if counterattacking, Texas troops reached the other side and began to attack forcing the Feds back to their original positions. This is the only time they were there to pick up the flags in the swale. As a result it could have been any one of about 9 regiments from Churchill's Div. I reconstructed who all went into the field and swale and looked for any other state's troops who might have been there but it was only Ark that entered prior to the advance of the Feds before the Texas Troops entered. Missouri troops fought in the woods at that same times.

Some speculated it was the 33rd Ark but all 3 color companies of that brigade were together and in a report it mentioned the color bearer of the 33rd getting shot I believe but no mention is made by any regiment on losing its flag. If anyone has a report or letter stating otherwise please let me know. We would love to be able to know the exact regiment. It could also be a divisional flag since it is a 2nd National. However, from what I have been able to determine from Indiana, they still have some flags which have no unit or state designations and evidently all were recent issue and standard 2nd Nationals.
