The overall figures that I quoted came from a postwar report by Lincoln Cabinet Secretary Stanton.

One has to wonder how accurate these figures are? Were these Union figures of Confederate Deaths underestimated? Were the Union deaths in southern prison camps overestimated? Or just the opposite. I tend to think that they are pretty accurate.

The striking thing is that it is the Federal authorities who admitted to the differences in numbers of Prisoner who died in prison.
