Linda, the 47th Arkansas Mounted Infantry (usually referred to as the 47th Arkansas Cavalry) was one of several mounted regiments organized in central and northeast Arkansas in the summer of 1864, specifically for Price's Missouri campaign. These 40-series regiments consisted mostly of conscripts, organized around a small cadre of veterans detailed from infantry regiments, which were expected to be idle during the Fall and Winter of 1864, i.e., no significant campaigns were planned for this period, which is one reason why Price's request to invade Missouri was approved. The 47th Arkansas, under command of Col. Lee Crandall, rode with Price on his ill-fated campaign, and was heavily engaged in the action at Marais des Cygnes, Kansas, on October 25, 1864, where Colonel Crandall was captured. There is no casualty list that I know of. After returning to Arkansas, the 40-series regiments were furloughed and the men scattered to their homes. When the Trans-Mississippi Army surrendered, the men were recalled to the colors to be paroled. Most of the 47th Arkansas parolees signed their papers at Jacksonport on June 5, 1865; some at Wittsburg on May 25, 1865.

There is no record of William H. Fisher's service in any other Arkansas regiment. For your information, the 47th Arkansas was recruited in central Arkansas, mostly in Prairie, White, Van Buren, Jackson and Monroe counties.
