Major Lee Crandall of Stonewall Jackson's staff was apparently exiled to the Trans-Mississippi after Jackson's death. He started recruiting in South Mo. in the fall of 1863 but probably because of federal pressure from Pilot Knob and Rolla and likely inability to entice conscripts out of the brush retreated into Arkansas. In the short bio sheet I have somewhere in my paper jungle, he lived to around 80 or 90 years of age, and died in Washington D.C. while serving as, I think, Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
