Re a Pvt. John Rose, Co. G, 5th Arkansas Infantry, his only record is that of his Vicksburg July 8, 1863 parole certificate. It is rather unreadable, it would appear to me to be perhaps 3rd Ala.[??] Infantry. This notation is above inscribed, in a different pen & hand, as 5th Ark. Infantry.

I suspect this to be an error of interpretation by the War Department clerks ca 1900.
