Re: How John Rose Got into Vicksburg

I am totaly amazed at the amount of information you fellows know and have researched! As I said the John Rose I was looking for was my wife's GG grandfather. All I know about him is that he lived in Baxter County Arkansas in the community of Big Flat at the time of the Civil War. He would have been 19 or 20 when the war started. I just happened to see the John Rose name when I was researching my GGG grandfather Samuel P. Reid (Reed). He was in the "Brownsville Rifles" group. I will list the information on him I have below. I got this from a cousin that researched him.

Samuel Preston Reid – Private Company G 5th regiment Arkansas Infantry CSA. He enlisted June 10th 1861 in Brownsville, Arkansas Muster role for June 30, 1864 to August 31, 1864, last roll on file, shows him present. Union prisoner of war records show that he was captured August 29, 1864 at Jonesboro Georgia, received October 28, 1864 at Military Prison, Louisville, Kentucky, transferred October 29,1864 to Camp Douglas, Illinois, at which place he was released May 15, 1865 on taking the oath of allegiance to the United States. His residence is shown to be Prairie County, Arkansas, Complexion fair, hair dark, eyes brown, height 5 feet 10 inches. Died 5-12-1912, buried in Center Grove Cemetery, Titus County, Mt. Pleasant Texas

I have a copy of Samuel P. Reid's widows pension application which has some of this information on it.
