The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Vol Co. Light Inf 12 Sep 1860

Well this does throw a kink in things... Co K 1st State Troops did not become part of 15th (Josey) Ark. McRae of course does not either, he goes on to enlist his BN in NW Ark and command it at Wilson's Creek. None of the other officers listed in Co K go on to the 15th Ark either. Now according to the info, the Border Rangers was a company raised by McRae and he is listed on its roll. Only the Petty is listed with him on that roll. This unit was raised late April. The officer list of Co K is in late 1860 and then early 1861. It could be that the company as Co K did not want to go with Cleburne and his reg't, and reorg'd as Border Rangers. Then soon McRae left them and then were picked up by Bourland and the 3rd Ark Cav. That is the best guess scenario I can see.
