A while back you sent me that quote from Morgan stating he didn't like or respect McRae (dated in May 1863). After I copied the letter from McRae to his wife I had just a few minutes so I took a quick peek at the Morgan letters and copied the above letter. Making an even quicker scan through them for McRae references before they kicked me out to close, I found another reference in a letter dated July 30 after Helena. Do you have a copy of this letter? I copied it but considering the quote from the earlier letter, I want to make sure I transcribed it right:
"Many things are being said of McRae but what I know of his conduct it was gallant, actually leading an assault with musket in hand. Our firend Mc "aag" (this would be McConaughey, DM's adjutant that Morgan said was the most disagreeable person in the service or something like that) it is said fled to the "mountains of ???"
