At the time the 2nd Arkansas Batt. was assigned to Ransom's North Carolina Brigade. Both the Richmond Daily Dispatch Newspaper and the Diary of Lorenzo Miears state that the Battalion suffered casualities, dead and wounded, during this Battle appearently primarily from Company "B".
Richmond Daily Dispatch Newspaper
June 7th, 1862
(Battle of Seven Pines)
Casualties in Co. B, 2d Arkansas battalion. (Capt. N. Shannas)
Wounded John W Cockman, left arm shot off;
John A Wilkinson, badly shot in both thighs;
Wm Barker, shot in back and shoulder;
Wm Walton, shot in thigh;
Berry Morris, shot in right leg, severely,
Lt. Johny Laster, shot in back of head, not seriously,
J J Tidwell, B B Bearers, Robert all slightly wounded.
Lorenzo Miears Diary states that there were men killed also but they are not listed in the Richmond Newspaper.
Since the 2nd Arkansas Batt had 4 companies (3 from Arkansas and 0ne from Maryland) at this time, it would seem that maybe Company "B" may have been acting as Skirmishers for Ransom Brigade to have the only casualities of record. But appearently it was a pretty hot little affair for a single company to have 9 wounded and possibly more K.I.A.
