It would seem that there is a lot more to the 2nd Arkansas Battalions service than has previously been discovered.

According to Lorenzo Miears Diary (who was with the El Dorado Company) was appearently at first a seperate detachment from Company "A" (The Saline Co. Company), and Company "B" (the Jefferson Co. Company). From what I gather from Sgt Miears the Company "C" originally were trained as heavy Artillery at Evansport and became a part of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion when the abandoned Evansport in March of '62.

Again according to Miears the Battalion served with Joe Johnston Army during the retreat down the Pennisula to Richmond and was engaged in some of those actions. They were engaged in skirmishes of Lee's Mill or Dam #1 April 16th, along the York River near Cornwallis' lines during the Revolution near Yorktown. While they took no part in it they were at the Battle of Williamsburg, May 5th. And then Seven Pines/Fair Oaks May 31st - June 1st, before The Seven days Battle and Mechanicsville.

Again according to Miears the few men who reported for duty the morning after the battle of Mechanicsville were assigned to burial detail and battlefield security and cleanup by Lee himself? This would seem to indicate that Lee had taken notice of these men which may also explain the order #212 which named even man in the Battalion.

Of course Miears wrote his account after the fact and bragged of his contacts with ranking Officers and his own importance, like so many other writers, therefore many would discount the accuracy. But that is not what interest me it is the details of the camps life, movements and battle descriptions though not in great detail.

Miears became a part of Co. "E" of the 3rd Arkansas.
