Little Rock [Arkansas] July 1st 1862 Col. A. [Allison] Nelson. Devals Bluff (Via Des Arc) Be of good cheer, [Albert] Rust telegraphs that he will be at Devals Bluff tonight. [William E.] Woodruff's Battery, a splendid one will be here tomorrow evening or the following morning, and can be sent over immediately if found necessary. [Dandridge] McRea ought to reach you in a day or two. I will try to have plenty of arms and ammunition there by the time he arrives. Has the flour from Brownsville arrived? Do you need anything? What? Keep me constantly advised of everything that occurs. Did Dunnington get the solid shot? How many days rations have you? Genl. [Thomas] Hindman wants you to fight to the death but carefully and losing a single man unnecessarily. R. [Robert] C. Newton A.A. Genl.
