Does anyone know the rest of the story behind this order

"Capt W.E. Woodruff, commanding Woodruff's Artillery will move with his men, four guns and a sufficient number rounds of canister, at once to Col [Allison] Nelson's camp and report to Col Nelson for orders".

I seem to remember it having something to do with Nelson's troops being upset by the order to dismount them?
