Re: Woodruff's Battery at Nelson's Camp

Not sure of the date, but Nelson's troops including artillery may have been defending the White River and DuValls Bluff from an attack up the White River around that date. Nelson's camp was at DuValls Bluff around the second week of July, 1862. Woodruff's Battery may have been send to his camp at DuValls Bluff to re-enforce his artillery. Federal troops were slipping onto the peninsula of land at the "basin" DuValls Bluff and sniping shots at Nelson's artillerymen near the river. Shelby's cavalry was made to go on to the peninsula and stop the yankee sniping (Shelby wanted to leave DuValls Bluff and go to Missouri, he thought the threat was over, but was ordered to stay). Are you saying they were being send to "Nelson's Camp" at DuValls Bluff, then I'm sorry for my first post as I was thinking of "Nelson's Camp" near Austin, Arkansas. If so then never mind for the first post. Yes all of Nelson's dismounted Texas cavalry units were not happy about being dismounted, but not sure it had any effect on Woodruff's Battery placement. A lot of the bends along the White River above St. Charles to DuValls Bluff had artillery placed on the high ground to fire up and down the river during the summer of 1862.
