Re: Largest Henry Reenacting Group?

The 66th Illinois Infantry also known as the Western Sharpshooters were at Resaca. This is from the book "With Western Sharpshooters" by Lorenzo A. Barker who was also a member of the Western Sharpshooters and was at Resaca. The US government purchased 1731 Henry rifles of which most were issued to the 1st DC Cavalry. The Confederates were able to capture 200 of those. Of the 1731 only about 800 were issued during the war. Henry rifles were mostly private purchased for around $50 which was a large sum of money at that time. About 10,000 Henrys were used in the war by both the US and the CS. The US government purchased over 4,500,000 Henry cartridges during the war however there were also private purchases of ammunition. For a mor indepth look at the Henry read the article by Andrew L.
