Thankfully I got to the South a lot during those 11 years to get properly refueled with BBQ - and that included GA, AL and TN. I tried some of that Lexington style BBQ and just don't get it.
The best BBQ place in Cincy was Burbank's - and he was from Memphis baby!
What the Hell does NYC know about BBQ?????? Or New England or Pittsburgh? Them's Yankees pal! Italian food or New England Clam Chowder maybe - but not BBQ!

Ever been to the Rendezvous BBQ joint in Memphis? Only slow smoked ribs and a rub - no sauce unless you ask for it. BBQ in TN, AL, TX and GA is also smoked - it ain't BBQ if it ain't smoked! And all use hickory wood too - although some with oak and apple is good too. Oak and mesquite steaks are great!
One time I was in Memphis on business and we went to Blues Alley and heard Big Mama Thornton sing the blues while eating platters of Memphis ribs and drinking all the Heineken's beer the place had. If that isn't a good time to you then we need to get you out a lot more.
Good to hear that our dear host Jim Martin has been properly raised in good BBQ as well.
