I, too, had an ancestor in the 6th. His name is Newton Van Pelt and he was in Co. H from Chattooga County. He was captured near Cedartown and sent to Camp Douglas. He died at Camp Douglas.
The information available about the 6th is very limited. One book, Cracker Cavaliers, has some good information.
I am thinking very seriously about writing a history of the 6th. I currently live in Rome and have found some information here. Also, Col. Hart is buried at Mrytle Hill cemetery here and the Bale brothers are buried at Sardis Church cemetery located at Coosa. Any information, copies of letters from men in the 6th, or leads would be appreciated.
