My gg-grandfather was William Harden Patterson. He was first in Smith's Legion, then later in the 6th Ga Cavalry until he went back home in early '64 because of family problems (deaths, sickness, etc.).

Bill, as he was known, had at least 44 (and probably closer to 55 or 60) relatives from north Ga and east Tx who served in the Confederacy. By close relatives, I mean siblings, sisters' husbands, 1st cousins, or sons of 1st cousins. I've confirmed 45 total thus far, nine of whom died in the war.

I'm quite certain there were another dozen or so who also served, but had common names so I'm still sorting through records to find prove of identities.
