Re: GBSHHA - 40th, 41st, 42nd, 43rd & 52nd Ga. Vol

oops I hit a wrong button and posted a blank. I only have one letter written by Patick Henry to brother in law C.W. ( Charles Winston Whitworth) The rest are from his brother in law William Thomas Daniel who was with him in Vicksburg serving with the GA 34th. I thought I would just type this one up here. Others might like to read. If you want a copy send me an e-mail. We are still looking for William's grave. In the last correspondence the family had a Mrs. Sallie Lea told them he had died trying to return home in a springboard wagon. Her husband the Rev. Lea was trying to get him home. She says " He died 10 miles this side of Enterprise" She lived in Brownsville, MS. So he is probably buried somewhere in a 10 mile radius. Anyway here is the letter. We are fairly sure Tom Daniel is William Thomas Daniel my ggreat grandad in this letter. ( please note he used the s word and I didn't feel write typing that on a website so I went with symbols for that word)

Dear Brother,
I seat myself this morning to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well at this time, hoping these few lines will reach you and find you well. I received a letters from you the sixth of February and was glad to hear from you and to hear you all was well. That is 3 I have got from you since you have come from Franklin. I have got all you have wrote but one. I have just come off picket. We have to go 6 miles to picket and we stay 2 days and nights and we have to go every 10 days. Tom Daniel have to stand the same place. Me and him stayed together all of the time I was on and he is well and he told me he wanted you to write to him. He wanted to come home as bad as anybody. There is the best prospect for peace that I have ever heard. If it is so, and I hope it is so, the offers say that we all will get to go home before next Christmas but I think I will be home before that time if they don't feed me better than they do. I can't live the way I am and I won't stand it much longer. I hain't eat 2 punds of bacon since I have been here and I need something gressy to greese my insides. The beef is so poor there is no greese about is but I think my insides is slick enough from the way the s?#! flies. I hain't s$#! been well of the s*&$ since I have went in Kentucky. I hain't s*&$ a hard turd since that time. You know that is pretty hard. I sit down this morning to finish my letter. We had the fun last night talking about peace and there was the whole company talking at once. They say everybody sees hard times now. Well, W.C., if you can keep out of it I want you to do so for you don't know nothing yet. I have got used to it and has gotten weaned from home. You wrote to me I would not know the place but I would risk it anyhow without inquiring. Well C.W. the mail is about to start and I must close. I have wrote all I know at present. I will write more the next time. I would be glad to see you all and to be with you. I want you all to write to me. Tell Mother is looks like she has forgotten me so all of you write. So I must close for this time. Remain yours truly until death.
