William Thomas did not survive the war. We have a letter written by a Sallie Lea dated near Jackson May 14, 1864. Her husband was trying to bring him back home to his family in he had passed away . She said he died in early August and that her husband, rev. Lea saw to his burial and to send no money. she says " he died ten miles this side of Enterprise." William and his family originally came from Cass( now Bartow county in GA) They are listed in the 1850 census in Gordon county, but that county was created that year and they probably hadn't moved. They left in about 1858 to go to Broomtown, Alabama in Cherokee county, AL. this is just across the state line. He crossed back over the state line to join up in Chattooga county, GA.

Here is what I know about Patrick Henry Stovall. b. 4 July 1839 in Cass county, GA d. 21 Aug. 1863 in New Orleans, LA. He enlisted 27 March 1862 as a private Company L, 40th reg. Georgai Volunteers, Army of the Confederacy. He was on a list of casualties , 1st Brigade, 1st Division, E.K. Smith's Army, near Vicksburg, Miss. As wounded 28030 Dec. 1862, This was dated 5 Jan. 1863. On the same list- Major James Stevenson's Command wounded near Vicksburg, Miss. Dec. 28, 29, 30 1862 and 3 Jan. 1863. Patrick H. was on the Roll of Prisoners of War in Hospitals- captured at Vicksburg 4 July 1863 and died at New Orleans LA 3 Aug.1863. Cypress Grove is the given location of the grave.

On another note his first cousin, Patrick M. Stovall son, of William Stovall, was killed at Baker's Creek on 16 May 1863.

we have a good deal of info about the Stovall family back 3-4 generations in England, but are totally stuck with the Daniel side. I do have a photo copy of Patrick Henry's picture.
