I will post information about Point Lookout on the Civil War Prisons site. As for some other anecdotes: An amusing account of the first train ride for many of the men is recounted. When the train crossed a chasm, old Sgt. Clampit shouted, "Boys, she's riz! she's a flyin'! I knowed she couldn't stick to the ground and go like that." Sutton re-enlisted with Sgt. Newt Higgins of Company C and joined the regiment just after the Seven Days battles. He saw dead New York Zouaves on the Second Manassas field, and having fallen out from weakness, fought with the 15th North Carolina at Crampton's Gap. At Fredericksburg, his regiment was posted in front of the Troup artillery and he saw that battery fire twice at a Federal signalman in a church steeple. The second round went through the steeple, which rocked back and forth, and the signalman beat a hasty retreat. Sutton writes about an altercation between Sgt. C. J. Allen and Henry Holbrooks. Allen was trying to unload a spare gun. Holbrooks carried a small flag or mark for the line to dress on, and he was excused from carrying a gun, and despite Allen's best efforts, Holbrooks refused to carry it and finally knocked Allen down with a rail, but he escaped punishment. Sutton describes the battle of Chancellorsville in considerable detail. He also writes of a meeting of Christians in Company C led by Lt. J. F. West of White County, who later became a Baptist preacher. Sutton was captured on the second day at Gettysburg. He recounts the final moments of Gen. Barksdale in silent prayer just before the charge commenced, as Wofford's brigade was in line in their rear. The booklet that I have is 78 pages in length, a quick but very entertaining read.
