A brief fight took place along Camp Creek during Kilpatrick's Raid when the 4th Michigan Cavalry surprised and overran a picket under command of Capt James S Porter of Co "A", 6th Texas Cavalry. An excellent description of this night action appears in David Evans, Sherman's Horsemen: Union Cavalry Operations in the Atlanta Campaign, pp 412-414. The only Confederate casualties were officers and men of the 6th Texas Cavalry.
If the researcher's date is right (and we have no way of knowing that it is), the place cannot be Camp Creek GA.
