Re: Cobb Guards, GA Infantry/22 BN GA Heavy Artill

I acquired everything that Alabama State Archives had on him. He is not the Jordan S Holland previously mentioned. He is Jordan William Holland. From January to August 1863 he was a dragoon with a home guard unit known as the "Henry Mounted Rebels". They were charged with running to ground a Yankee sympathizer named Joseph Sanders who was raiding the homes of civilians in southern Alabama. In August 1863 he enlisted with the 22nd GA. The muster rolls show he was at Ft. Gaines, Thunderbolt and some small fort at Savannah. Evidently it was largely garrison work. In know that he was at Averasboro and Bentonville as part of Elliott's Brigade. I must have been a tough row to how. From what I've read, they were largely untested until that time. It appears he was sick thereafter and surrendered arms between April 26th & 28th at Greensboro. I read that all soldiers were given a parole and a Mexican dollar and sent on their way. I just have never heard of that printed and signed parole in our family. He must have received one, because the State of Alabama gave him a pension from 1893 until he died in 1907. I have copies of all of the handwritten app's that he made his mark ("X") on. I appreciate the clarification on the enlistment process. I have always wondered about that. I have not been able to find very much in print about Fort Gaines and Thunderbolt. If any of you are ever in Alpharetta Georgia, let me know. I am the sitting Commander of the Milton Guards Camp #2214, 12th Brigade, Georgia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans. We'd be glad to have you. Y'all are the only people that I've found that have offered any info on Company H of the 22nd. Thanks!
