There are some conflicting stories on the women. As best I can tell, they were free to go where they wished after the war but many had no resource provided to do so. Some did come home. I'm still fighting the OR's to find the exact statement, but Sherman said he wanted them to be held as traitors. Finding information isn't easy because many of the individual stories are in books that one wouldn't think to look in. I wish I had a photographic memory so I could remember what books they were.
My Grandfather was from Elberton. He mentioned a few times that one of his Aunts married a man who had a sister or cousin, he couldn't remember which, that was one of those women. I wish he were still alive to ask more about it. I don't even know her name.
