I had always wondered about her first marriage to George West. Just from memory.. I know for sure that David Vann was her brother and I am thinking that Isaac Busheyhead may have been a brother in law, uncle or some sort of kin. Elizabeth/Betsy had another brother, Charles Vann who was married to an Eliza West. However, Starr only lists Eliza West as being married to Leroy Markham Eliza is shown as being a daughter of Jacob West and Sarah Sallie Harlen.
As far as David Rowe being called a Pin, I really wondered about that as well. A few years back, I put out a serious inquiry to some Cherokee historians that I trust and asked that same question. The answer made me think hard. Yes, there were some large slave owners that chose Nationality (Cherokee) versus Slavery issues and the USA causes. I was told it was possible that David Rowe was indeed a Pin, meaning alliance with John Ross. David Rowe also had family connections with Daniel N. McIntosh, as that would be his blood related nephew as well as all of Susannah's children. Rebecca, Deliah and Catherine McIntosh. So, again I really wondered?
I would have to do some serious checking, but I am also thinking that George Scraper changed sides as well. The civil war in Indian Territory was devasting. And it is tricky to claim one side over another. On my dad's side, his great grandpa was David Israel. On the OU digital files, a daughter of David's tells her father was a Confederate through-out the civil war under General Stan Watie. Well, I found him later in the IHG! on the Union side.
