I share your views regarding the Comanche in relation to the Civil War. They had none of the motives of the so-called Five Civilized Tribes, the Osage, or other smaller tribes or bands. Their different motives to ally with one side or the other or to ally with no one makes them unique and interesting.

The Confederate treaties with the Comanche and other tribes of the Leased District and the Staked Plain are in the Official Records, Series 4, Vol. 1. These were signed with Albert Pike on August 12, 1861 at the Wichita Agency which was just east of Ft Cobb.

The treaty with the tribes of the Leased District (aka the Reserve Indians) begins on page 542. This treaty is with the tribes already residing on the Leased District (leased from the Choctaw and Chickasaw which jointly owned it) and essentially replaces their treaties with the US.

The treaty with the "Comanche of the Prairie and the Staked Plain" begins on page 548. This treaty requires that they "abandon their wandering mode of life" and settled on reserves for them in the Leased District.
