Yes Alan - Richard would have been viewed as an enemy to most of his (my) relatives. As it happens, I have several split families in VA and KY, and can only imagine the terrible damage to families in these border states. The word "conflict" is from my grandmother's diary, and she was of course maintaining her KY gentility. Her uncle, Ben Franklin Rose rode with Morgan, and was injured and captured at Cynthiana. She died a few years back in her late 90's, but I was amazed to listen to her actually describe her recollections of him in his uniform and long whiskers. She was the youngest in her family, and BF was the oldest uncle so the time span was considerable in those two generations.
