Thanks for responding. Yes he did have a brother Felix J. Staton as well as William C. Staton, Nancy M. Staton and Drucilla J. Staton. Joseph P. was born about 1830 ub Calloway Co. Ky. He married on Sept 23, 1855 to Mary e. Short who was born about 1838. Joseph P was the son Joseph L Staton and Mary Liles. They were married Dec. 12 1823 in Calloway County. Mary Lies was vorn about 1805 in North Carolina. Joseph L Staton was the son of Charles Staton and Naomi Lamar and he was born about 1798 in Livingston County Ky (then Christian County) and he (Joseph L) died about 1840 in Marshall County Ky (then Calloway county). Charles first appears in Kentucky records in 1790 when he and John Staton (his father from Nuckingham Co. VA) signed a petition asking that a part of Lincoln County be divided into another county. The new county, Logan was formed in 1792 with Charles and John Staton listed on the first tax record. Family history tells of Joseph P coming home from the war to find his wife Mary dead of exposure; the children taken in my neighbors and the farm totally destroyed. Joseph was able to identify the union unit that caused it and the person in charge. He rode north to Ill. located the person at his home; ensured that he was the correct person and responsible and shot him on the spot. He then rode home through tennesse where he was captured and was going to be hung but tennesse civil war vets would not stand for an officer to be hung and broke him out of jail. He returned to Ky; picked up his children and traveled to Sulphur Bluff Texas. I noticed in the Family search program his name is misspelled as Staten. We are not certain if he enlisted in Ky or rode with Lee and the Army of Virginia. Thanks for any assistance you can supply. Lauralynn
