Thank you for your response. I was able to find a muster roll of the Third Regiment Mounted Infantry, Ky Volunteers, Company A on a re-inactment site ( http://bellsouthpwp.net/c/cgreenf). The roll lists an F.J Staton, Capt;a J. F Staton, 1st lieut. and a J.F. Staton 2nd Lt.; a F.J Staton, 3rd Lieut. I'm wondering a couple of things. For the F. J. Staton: is this Felix and if so is it showing him progressing in rank or are there really two F. J. Statons? For the J.F. Staton; could it be a translation error and should really be J. P. Staton and again is it showing him progressing in rank or are there 2 J. F. Statons.
