Joseph P. Staton is listed as a veteran of the Confederate Army on the 1910 Census. If you could locate United Confederate Veteran records for a Camp in Hopkins County, Texas, you may be able to document his service. UDC records for a Chapter in that county may also have information on his possible service. Being that he lived in Marshall County, Kentucky, during the War, and not in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, he may have served in the latter part of the War in Colonel James K. Huey's Thirteenth Kentucky Cavalry, CSA. There are no known muster roll records for this unit, but there are a few documented veterans of this unit from Marshall County and the surrounding area.
