Joseph P Staton returned to his farm in Paducah Kentucky following his dispatching of the Union officer responsible for his wife's death and the destruction of his property. His 2 children had been taken in by neighbors. He picked up the children and headed toward areas more friendly to the Confederate cause as he was now a wanted man for the killing in Ill. I was told that at the end of the war he was the rank of Major. For this reason he went to Tenn. first. He was arrested for the Ill. killing and put into jail to await hanging. Confederate veterans broke him out of jail and he then fled to North East Texas. We do not know his date of death. He was the brother of William C and Felix J Staton. He also may have been known as Peter Staton. We believe that he was conscripted into the Union Army soon left and joined the Confederate. He appears also to have been listed as Joseph P Staten in some records.

Do you have any information with regard to Joseph L. Staton, the father of Joseph, William and Felix?
