I believe that William Franklin Edwards and Tilford Crittenden Edwards may have been brothers and not cousins. The 1860 Federal Census of Calloway County, KY indicates they were the sons of William and Cynthia Edwards. It is interesting to note that the 3rd Kentucky were present at the Battle of Brice's Crossroads. Meredith Edwards, the brother of William Edwards (the senior) had a son named Hugh H. Edwards, who had been born in Calloway County, KY and later migrated with his father Meredith to southern Illinois. Hugh (my GG-Grandfather) was a Union soldier in the 120th Illinois Infantry Regiment. Hugh was also present at the Battle of Brice's Crossroads, was captured by the Confederates and sent to and survived Andersonville Prison. Hugh would have been a cousin to William Franklin and Tilford. So here we have a story of a family (Edwards) separated by a river (the Ohio) between Illinois and Kentucky, and loyalties to the North and South.
