There were a couple of others from this side of the river who enlisted in the 3rd KY Mounted Infantry (under Thompson and Tilghman). One was Major Eagleton Carmichael's younger brother, Lee (Company I) who was killed. (Major Carmichael was originally from MS, and was in the 10th and 15th IL Cav). Lee left here to enlist.
Another man who lived here also enlisted in the same regiment and actually came back here to live for a time after the war was over.
An attorney who lived on this side of the river was ran out of town for trying to recruit men into the Conferate service. He supposedly enlisted too, but he has such a common name (Brown!!!) that I don't know if he did or not. He was an attorney prior to this.
Two of "Grigsby's men" (state troops?????) were hung here (lynched) up the hwy. toward Golconda about 5 miles NE of town for horse stealing. I've found a couple of old articles about that, and one mention in the OR's from the telegraph operator here.
Also, I copied a few things from the Henry Baker papers in Golconda years ago. One letter described the 120th in the Guntown battle. I've been told these papers have since been taken out of the big box and indexed. I have some other things too on the 120th, but will have to check and see what all I have.
I'm not related to any of them (either side). Just collect a lot of stuff!!!! Mine were mostly in TN during that time. Also, Gen. Tilghman's home at Paducah is now a museum. They have some items there. I haven't been over there in years looking though so don't recall what all they do have.
No, not found the 2nd murder trial/file yet. Probably another stolen pig story!!!!
