The 6th and 8th Louisiana Cavalry regiments were ordered dismounted about April 1865. It is my recollection that they were to go into a brigade to be commanded by Brigadier General William R. Boggs, but they may have been assigned to Gray's old brigade instead. Gray's and Thomas' brigades were united to form a division for Hays.
