Ken, Thanks for your information. I have obtained copies of the muster rolls of Company A Miles Legion from Nov 1, 1862 to May 1, 1863 and from May 1, to Dec 31, 1863 both rolls showing J.A.C. Pino and the latter roll under remarks has the notation "killed Dec (date hard to read) but appears to be 6 or 7 1863. The diocese of Baton Rouge records shows him as buried in Ms on 16Dec 1863. Now these rolls are headed Confederate Miles Legion. So it seems he had to be at the Natchez action under Wirt Adams Command. Believe this is a resonable assumption. It appears that the problem revolves around the fact that a company could be attached to any of the larger units engaged in the Natchez action.
i.e. 14th Confederate Cavalry, 14th Arkansas Mounted Infantry or others. In my efforts to find the burial sie for this ancestor I have tried to nail down specifically the unit he was a part of. I have Dr. Bergerons excellent book "Guide to Louisiana Military units but the Cavalry units do not provide the information I want. I also have The book by Art and Lawrence Hewitt "Miles Legion A History and Roster and J.A.C. Pino is not listed therein. I have benefitted from your Battle Report of Brig. Gen Wirt Adams Cavalry Brigade of Operation around Natchex Dec. 6-7 1863 and aam confident that was where J.A.C. Pino was killed. Thanks again for your help. Ernest
