Let's see if I can put to rest some of the confusion here. See my book for Cage's Cavalry Battalion. The three companies of that unit are sometimes referred to as Miles' Legion Cavalry. Company A was Stuart's Company Cavalry (East Baton Rouge Parish). It was commanded initially by Captain J. Duncan Stuart, who was mortally wounded December 28, 1862, and then by Captain Benjamin F. Bryan. The company was organized around September 1862 and formally mustered into service November 3. On September 14, 1863, Bryan's company was assigned as 1st Company E, 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment. There is some uncertainty as to how long it was affiliated with the 14th Confederate, and the company may have been acting semi-independently with Adams' Brigade in December 1863. When Professor Hewitt and I did the book on Miles' Legion, we did not include the cavalry companies because they were never really a part of the Legion, and the roster does not include the men who served in the three companies.
