Daniel Lady Farm at Gettysburg

The following preservation announcement came in my e-mail this morning. I thought I would share it with those interested in the participation of the Louisiana troops in the Battle of Gettysburg. The Civil War Preservation Trust map hyperlinked below shows both Hay's Brigade positioned around Cemetery Hill, and the route taken by Nicholl's Brigade (commanded by Colonel Jesse M. Williams, 2nd Louisiana Infantry) which crossed over Benner's Hill in the rear of Jones Virginia Brigade to take the center position in Johnson's line of attack on Culp's Hill on July 2, 1863.

You can actually go there to "walk where they walked, and stand where they stood" without having to block out too much of the 21st Century! I am not sure where all the Park Boundary lines run - there may still be some private property between Benner's Hill and Rock Creek. Ask the Rangers at Park Headquarters.

Also see the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association's website at http://www.gbpa.org/ This is the local preservation group that has led the way in preserving the Daniel Lady Farm which served briefly as Johnson's Division HQ and later as a temporary field hospital for the Confederate wounded who could be evacuated from Culp's Hill.
