Re: European Brigades (State Militia)

Hugh. Thanks for your input, and I have to confess that I assumed the Orleans Guard Battalion and Orleans Guard Regiment were one and the same. I also like your analysis on the Militia Act of January 1862 as the cause of the majority of the European units, but note that several were formed in 1861 before the act, such as the French Legion. Believe those pesky Euros were probably hedging their bets after Bull Run, Wilson Creek, etc.

As for my interest -- Order of Battle analysis. I developed analytical models to sort out incomplete OBs with fragmentary information. I used this professionally but now do it as a hobby. My other project was the Imperial Russian Army back before material was available out of the big/bad Soviet empire. Got bored a few months back, and after looking at several Rebel states -- focused on the Army of Louisiana given it was the first State to be occupied by them Yanks, and the it had such a diverse force. Other States, such as Virginia, are boring compared to the Pelican State. Dan
