The Bringhurst family from central Louisiana that served in the Confederate Army were all related. One brother moved to Texas and became the first president of Texas A & M University, which I guess constitutes him as the black sheep of the family. :)

One of my friends in reenacting is named Bringhurst from Texas, and is up on a lot of the family history, so drop me a personal email and I will get you his email address. He fondly recalls as a child, his father telling him about the Bringhurst family and their ties to Alexandria.
