Ken,

In my book, The Encyclopedia of Quantrill's Guerrillas, I stated that Quantrill MAY have rode with Stand Watie's Irregulars, and that Quantrill enlisted under Sterling Price. Quantrill fought at Wilson's Creek as did Stand Watie, but as far as communicating with each other, I have no proof. Now, saying that, it could be possible that they communicated. Quantrill supposedly fought at the front and very bravely. Stand Watie could have noted that and said something to him. Otherwise, Quantrill was small potatoes at this time.

I hope this helps.

Sources:
Harry Sinclair Drago, Outlaws on Horseback, stated on page 2, that Quantrill joined Stand Watie's Irregulars, the Cherokee Mounted Rifles. This is the only place where I found this information. That is why I said MAY. I do not know where Drago found his information.

Carl Breihan, Quantrill and his Civil War Guerrillas, stated on page 51 that Quantrill enlisted under Gen. Price. On page 76, he states that Quantrill fought at Wilson’s Creek under Capt. Stewart’s cavalry.

Richard Brownlee, Gray Ghosts of the Confederacy, stated Quantrill fought at Wilson's Creek on page 57.

John N. Edwards, Noted Guerrillas, on page 51 stated Quantrill enlisted in Captain Stewart's company of cavalry, in May, 1861. Edwards also stated that Quantrill was at Wilson's Creek.

Jay Monaghan, Civil War on the Western Border 1854-1865, stated on pages 168 and 172 that Quantrill fought at Wilson's Creek.

Ken Ulyatt, Outlaws, stated on page 28 that Quantrill was at Wilson's Creek.
