This ride I've been on lately of trying to track some of the civil war experiences of my g-g-grandfather has given new & special meaning to me this Memorial Day. I've always just known only his name and where he's buried - no photos, no treasured possession, and no stories.
I'm sure he enrolled in the county militia only because he was required by law, and did nothing special or heroic - was just "a guy".
Yet, in decorating graves for Memorial Day in the past years, I've only placed flags on my dad and grandfather's stones. I'm thinking that this year William deserves one too.
