In this newspaper article it said that Marion D. Erwin had been convicted previously and sentenced to death. It stated that Bill Anderson had traded a prisoner for his release and that he was later caught again and finally hung. This could account for the report of the hanging in the fall of 1864 as well as the actually hanging of this man in the spring of 1865.
