The epitome of a Civil War Mill, Bollinger Mill in Cape County:

Note the creek is at flood in the photo.

Located on the Whitewater Creek at current Burfordville MO it is now operated by Missouri as a State Park and still grinds grain. The current building was built in 1866 out of the ruins of a burning by Union forces that occurred during the Civil war. Operated by the Bowman's during the war period it was in the cross hairs of the guerilla fight seeing folks such as Sam Hilderbrand on a regular basis. The Howe truss covered bridge dates to 1858. Prior to that a suspension bridge swung across the creek. After the war Soloman Burford bought the operation and rebuilt the mill. Originally built by George F Bollinger this mill is frequently confused with the sawmill known as Bollinger Mill located at current day Zalma MO during the Civil war and the center of McGee / Cato clan operations.

The Bowman's were generally Democrats and pro - south and after being burned out moved up stream to a mill near current Sedgewickville MO owned by a fellow named Greable. The foundation of that mill is still visible today on private property.
